  • Overview

    Summary: Plans, writes code, and installs programs to automate power driven machines, such as CNC-laser, press brake, and tubing benders to cut, press, sculpt, and finish metal.

    Responsibilities

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Any one position may not include all of the listed duties, nor do all of the listed examples include all tasks which may be found in positions within this classification.

    • Create instructions and programs for CNC fabrication machine operators.
    • Review 3D CAD design blueprints and analyze job orders.
    • Determine sequence of operations, choose cutting tools needed, and prepare geometric layout of designs using proper software.
    • Perform necessary calculations for programming and translate instructions into a computer automated manufacturing (CAM) program.
    • Write new or modify existing programs as necessary.
    • Check completed programs by running simulations or tests.
    • Monitor all programs to ensure blueprints are followed safely and successfully.
    • Evaluate all completed designs to validate functions for improvements and efficiency.
    • Follow an Oracle MRP schedule to ensure jobs are fully loaded and completed in accordance with set deadlines.
    • Provide training to new operators as necessary.
    • Maintain a strong, personal commitment to the safety culture.
    • All other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

    • High school diploma/general education degree (GED) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Associate’s Degree in CNC programming, computer-related field, or mechanical field preferred.
    • CNC certification from an accredited technical school preferred.
    • Superior knowledge of CNC programming knowledge required.
    • Knowledge of NC Express programming software preferred.
    • Proficient knowledge of electronics, machine tools, and fabrication metal shop work required.
    • Excellent reading comprehension and math skills, to include algebra, trigonometry, and physics.
    • Ability to continue education for new techniques and programs as they emerge.
    • Strong understanding of safety procedures.
    • Must be capable of utilizing proper personal protective equipment (PPE).

    • Manual dexterity sufficient to work with fingers.
